Microsoft Press to Publish Small Business Marketing and Design Book by Roger C. Parker

Press release
For release: March 1, 2006

Microsoft Press has announce the publication of Roger C. Parker's latest guide to marketing and design, Design to Sell: How to Plan, Write, and Create Great Marketing using Microsoft Publisher." Design to Sell is Roger's 38th book. His previous titles have included Looking Good in Print, Desktop Publishing & Design for Dummies, and the original Microsoft Office for Windows for Dummies.

"This is a book I've long wanted to write," relates Parker. "Microsoft Publisher, already installed on hundreds of thousands of personal computers, is capable of great things when care is laid formatting text and adding graphics."

Parker emphasizes that previous design or desktop publishing experience is not necessary for success. "By paying attention to the basics of readability, fine-tuning the details, and taking maximum advantages of templates, business owners can multiply the effectiveness of their newsletters, postcards, tip sheets, and other marketing."

Design to Sell's begins by introducing Publisher in the sequence that projects are created, starting with the basic structure, and proceeding through headlines, body copy, and graphics. Each step is accompanied by design advice, like recommendations for column placement, increasing line spacing, and avoid design techniques--like text wraps--that can interfere with easy reading.

Next, there are a series of chapters on specific design projects, like newsletters, postcards, tip sheets, and small ads.

The final section provides a framework for business owners and graphic designers to review their work before printing and distributing their message. "My goal was to create a perfect partnership between design, marketing, and technology," concludes Parker.

Design to Sell will be available from local bookstores and online retailers. Amazon.com is already taking advance orders.
